![]() ![]() My thoughts on Minus the Bear are nothing short of Amazing. I can see them going very far in the future. You can really hear their talent when these guys play. Their guitars were amazing, as well as the drums and keyboard. This Seattle based band had a large following intently listening in the crowd. They had a more mellow tone, which I felt resembled a little of the Dismemberment Plan and Pinback, but a bit more up tempo. Noise Ratchet is with the Militia Group and has a new six-song ep coming out soon. They get two very enthusiastic thumbs up form me. Actually, the whole band had a lot of movement on stage, and a very strong stage presence. I must say, their guitarist had incredible hair, and loved to swing his head around causing his hair to fly everywhere. According to the band they are "a compound of punk, post-grunge alt-rock and emo." The crowd got into their music easily, and was dancing along to all the songs. This San Diego base band had a sound more rock than pop base. If you have not heard of this band I would recommend checking them out. How nice.Īfter My Chemical Romance, Noise Ratchet took the stage. These nice boys even invited all the girls in the audience to join them in the hot tub at the Holiday Inn they were staying at. Although this band is not my style, I was impressed by their set, and they definitely had their share of fans in the crowd. There sound had a harder edge, with vocals that consisted mainly of screaming. They played an active set, with a lot of movement and emotion. The show began with My Chemical Romance, an energetic five-piece band. And last night when Katie went to the Graceland to see Piebald, Minus the Bear, Noise Ratchet, and My Chemical Romance, she was not let down, and found a great new Seattle band. It seemed that every show she went to introduced her to a new amazing Seattle based band. But little by little, with each show she went to in Seattle, Katie realized this place was pretty tight. It was a very hard departure she thought she would never be able to live away from her venues. Then one-day college began and she had to move to Seattle. She lived in Chicago and spent all of her time going to shows at the Metro and Fireside Bowl. Their swansong was the single new track, "Fake Your Death" on the greatest-hits album May Death Never Stop You.Once upon a time there was a girl named Katie. ![]() Way denied rumors of band infighting, but the group imploded during sessions for the fifth album. Yet the band was having personnel problems, with drummer Bob Bryar leaving before the album and his replacement Michael Pedicone getting fired soon after. ![]() More direct and rocking than its predecessor, it also hit the Billboard Top Ten and launched another wave of high-profile touring, with the band playing the Reading and Leeds Festivals. 2010 brought their fourth album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. By 2008 the band was big enough to play Madison Square Garden the following year they released a cover of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row," condensing the eleven-minute epic to three speedy minutes. (It also partly explains why the band, especially Way, disowned the "emo" tag even though their music fit the trend). ![]() An English tabloid accused the emo movement of glamorizing suicide, citing their music in particular this led fans to march in London in the band's defense. For a mild-mannered band, My Chemical Romance stirred up its share of controversy. Way had opened up by now about his longstanding struggles with depression, alcoholism and prescription drug abuse, all of which influenced his songwriting. With the next album The Black Parade the band turned back to weightier themes, it was a loose-knit rock opera bout a dying cancer patient and his transition to the afterlife. While there remained plenty of darkness in the lyrics, the band had ramped up its knack for hooks the first single "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" aimed for maximum catchiness and succeeded. As a result their second album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge went platinum. Signed to Reprise soon afterward, they toured extensively and played the Warped and Taste of Chaos package tours, and got a plum opening slot for Green Day on the American Idiot tour. Guitarist Ray Toro and Ray's younger brother Mikey on bass completed the band's first lineup the first album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love was finished just three months after they formed. After witnessing the destruction of the Twin Towers, Way turned to music for catharsis, working initially with drummer Matt Pelissier the first song "Skylines and Turnstiles" referred directly to that days events. Founder and frontman Gerard Way was working at the time as an artist and animator, a career he'd maintain during the band's success, though he'd also grown up playing guitar. Initially formed in the wake of the 9/11 tragedies, My Chemical Romance's brand of pop and punk was suitably dark and urgent. ![]()
